Compressed Coco Peat Block (4.7Kg, Low EC)

Coco Peat or coco pith is one and the same product referred in different countries by two different names. Coco Peat is a natural fiber made out of coconut husks. The extraction of the coconut fiber from husks gives the by-product called Coco Peat in the form of dust and it is a 100% natural growing medium.

Advantages and Uses of Coco Peat: Coco Peat has innumerable advantages in agricultural and domestic gardening. Some of them are in potting mix, horticulture cultivation, nursery beds for seedlings, in gardens to conserve water, orchids, mushroom cultivation, plantation crops, etc.
• The main advantage is that the valuable nitrogen is preserved in Coco Peat and moisture content is retained mainly in potting mix in home gardening.
• Coco Peat is a multi-purpose growing medium, which is very easy to use. Its high air filled porosity and high water holding capacity makes it the ideal medium for all plant growing applications.
• Coco Peat is an excellent substrate for vegetable, fruit and cut flower crops. Coco Peat has many applications as an effective soil conditioner and soil-free substrate.
• Coco Peat is an excellent substrate for root development; therefore, transplanting can be made directly into it without` any further treatment or agent.

Compressed coconut coir or peat can expand up to five or six times its original volume once it's reconstituted with water. To avoid waste, only break off the amount you need.

How to Prepare Compressed Coconut Coir or Peat for Your Garden

1. Break apart the compressed brick and add it to a large container.
2. Add enough water to saturate the brick and allow it to sit for a period of time until it becomes loose and absorbs the water.
3. After 10-15 minutes, use a garden trowel to stir and fluff the coco peat. If it appears dry, add more water until it becomes loose, but be careful not to over-saturate it.
4. Repeat the stirring and fluffing process until all of the coco peat has been moistened and is loose.
5. Once you achieve the desired texture, the coco peat is ready to use in your garden.

If you’re doing container gardening and soil is not available then you can use soilless growing media like cocopeat, perlite, vermiculite, or peat moss.

To create your own soilless potting mix, please check the below given ingredients

Seed Germination Mix

• 4 to 6 parts sphagnum peat moss or coir (Cocopeat)
• 1 part perlite or vermiculite(Optional- Maintains moisture and aeration)

Planting Mix with Compost

• 2 parts compost (Vermicompost + Cow Manure)
• 2 to 4 parts sphagnum peat moss or coir (cocopeat)
• 1 part perlite or vermiculite

Mix with the Addition of Nutrients

Add ½ cup each per every 30 litres of the mix:

• ½ cup Bone meal (for added phosphorous)
• ½ cup Humex - All Purpose Organic Fertilizer (Humic Acid, Fulvic Acid, Potassium and Micronutrients)
• ½ cup Dolomitic limestone (raises soil pH and provides calcium and magnesium)
• ½ cup Blood meal, soybean meal, or Seaweed extract (for added nitrogen)

Note:

If you also want to include soil then you can put 2 parts of clean garden soil to it, but there are chance of harmful bacteria or fungus in it. To cure it you can spread that soil under full sun for 2-3 day.
